TORONTO — Rosanne Cash, A Great Big World, Carrie Underwood and Beyonce are among the early winners announced Sunday at the 57th Grammy Awards.
Cash kicked off the night’s celebration of the best in music by picking up three Grammys.
“The last time I won a Grammy, Reagan was president,” Cash said while accepting the award for Best American Roots Performance (“A Feather’s Not a Bird”). “That’s not a joke.”
Cash also won Best American Roots Song for “A Feather’s Not a Bird” and Best Americana Album (The River & The Thread).

Best R&B Song went to “Drunk in Love” by Beyonce, whose Beyonce was named Best Surround Sound Album.
A Great Big World won their first Grammy in the Pop Duo/Group Performance category for “Say Something” with Christina Aguilera and Underwood’s “Something in the Water” won the Grammy for Country Solo Performance.
Cheek to Cheek by Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga was named the best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.

Pharrell Williams’ G.I.R.L. won Best Urban Contemporary Album.
Two Jacks won Grammys — Jack White for Best Rock Performance (“Lazaretto”) and Jack Black of Tenacious D for Best Metal Performance (“Last in Line”).
Best Rock Song went to Paramore’s “Ain’t It Fun.”
Joan Rivers, who passed away last summer, was honoured with the Best Spoken Word award for Diary of a Mad Diva. Rivers’ daughter Melissa accepted the Grammy on her behalf.

The Comedy Album category winner was Weird Al Yankovic for Mandatory Fun.
Grammys in about 70 categories were handed out at a ceremony at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live ahead of Sunday’s live TV broadcast from the Staples Center.
Canadian nominees didn’t fare well.
while (1<2) by Ontario’s deadmau5 lost the Dance/Electronic Music Album category to Syro from Ireland’s Aphex Twin.
Pembroke, Ont. native Joshua Bartholomew lost the Grammy for Song Written for Visual Media (he co-wrote “Everything is Awesome” for The LEGO Movie) to “Let It Go” from Frozen.
The video for Montreal group Arcade Fire’s “We Exist” lost the Music Video category to “Happy” by Pharrell Williams.
Arcade Fire’s album Reflektor lost the Alternative Album award to St. Vincent’s self-titled release.
The song “0 to 100/The Catch Up” by Toronto’s Drake lost both the Rap Performance category and Rap Song categories to Kendrick Lamar and his song “i.”
Drake is also featured on the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration nominated track “Tuesday” by I Love Makonnen but lost to Eminem’s “The Monster” feat. Rihanna.
