BRAMPTON, Ont. – A Missisauga man faces a second-degree murder charge after a young woman was found dead in Brampton.
Peel Regional Police say the body of 29-year-old Shariyfa Birkett was found in a vehicle on a property on Melanie Dr. on Saturday.

Police initially said she had suffered no obvious signs of trauma, but still declared the death suspicious.

The accused, 31-year-old Amit Kalia, appeared in court on Sunday, according to police.
Police say it’s Peel Region’s first homicide of 2015.
