MONTREAL — Just as Quebec premier Philippe Couillard settled into a speech on the economy, about a dozen protesters tried to break it up shouting “Stop Couillard,” and carrying signs that read the same.

All of them were quickly apprehended by security guards and undercover police officers.
However, the disruption didn’t phase the premier.
Couillard stuck to his 3,800 word address before 1,600 people invited by the Montreal Metropolitan Board of Trade to the Palais des Congrès.

The premier talked about how strengthening the economy is linked to more private investments and mass transit projects.

He reiterated his support for the Quebec pension fund manager, the Caisse de dépôt et placements du Québec, to fund up to $5 billion for targeted public transit systems, including express rail service to the Trudeau airport from downtown and to the West Island.
