TORONTO – A woman was killed during a car crash on snow-covered Georgina shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
A child was in the car with the woman but was uninjured, police said, when it crashed into another vehicle near Ravenshoe Road west of Highway 48. The driver of the other vehicle was also uninjured.
The roads were slippery and heavy snow reduced visibility but police have not said whether weather conditions contributed to the crash.
The road is expected to be closed for several hours as police investigate. Much of York-Durham region, including Georgina, had been under a special weather statement for much of the day as Environment Canada warned of heavy snow.
The weather agency predicted that five to 12 centimetres of snow could fall throughout the day Thursday, sometimes mixing with freezing drizzle.
