Emma, Liam top baby names in NS for 2014

HALIFAX – If you know someone who welcomed a baby boy or girl this year, it’s likely they named them Emma or Liam.

According to the Nova Scotia Registry of Vital Statistics, those were the top baby names in the province for 2014.

Rounding out the top five girl names were Oliva, Ava, Sadie, and a tie between Abigail and Lily.

The top five boy names included Benjamin, William, Owen and a tie between Ethan and Lucas.

While many of the names on the top 20 list for boys and girls remain the same as last year, there are a few new ones, including Claire, Amelia, Sarah, Nora and Peyton for girls, and Oliver, Luke, Gavin, Connor, John and Gabriel for boys.

There were a total of 7618 registered births in Nova Scotia in 2014.
