WATCH: Theft victim gets surprise Christmas gift from Kelowna RCMP

SALMON ARM – After thieves in Kelowna stole her groceries and presents, generosity from the RCMP helped turn a Salmon Arm woman’s Christmas around. Jackie Higgs traveled to Kelowna last Thursday where she bought Christmas presents and stocked up on groceries.

“Unfortunately, I left them in my vehicle overnight which I know I shouldn’t have done,” says Higgs.

She says that she arrived back at her truck the next morning only to discover she’d been robbed. Higgs says all of her Christmas gifts and most of her groceries were gone. She reported the theft to the RCMP and an officer came to write a report. He asked if she would still be there at noon.

“I thought he was coming back to finish off a report about the incident,” says Higgs. “I really thought that is why he was coming.”

Instead Higgs got a big surprise. She says at noon two officers came back with a box full of gifts and over $400 in cash donations. The card enclosed was signed “from the members of the Kelowna RCMP.”

“I really had no idea what he was going to do at noon and I was just crying,” she says.

The box was full of gifts including stuffed animals, jewelry and chocolate.

“I don’t want to start crying because I’ve been crying all weekend,” says Higgs. “What he did was like the spirit of Christmas.”
