LONGUEUIL – For close to two months, the father of bike path murder victim Jenique Dalcourt has been critical of the work of Longueuil Police.
John Gandolfo has let everyone know about it.
At his daughter’s funeral in late October, Gandolfo spoke out about the poor communication from the police.
He also expressed concern no one had been charged in the case and his feelings have not changed.
From his home in New York, Gandolfo told Global News Friday, he’s ready to hire private detectives and to conduct his own investigation.
“I’m giving the police department there a certain amount of time to get this done,” he says.
“Right now, it’s in their hands, if they can’t do the job, we’ll find someone who can. We’re frustrated, we’re angry, and we’ve lost confidence.”
Gandolfo says he’s in regular contact with Longueuil Police but he believes their investigation has gone cold.
A 26-year-old man was arrested days after the killing but was later released with no conditions.
Police say they are still analyzing evidence seized at the scene.
On November 25th, police issued a news release which stated “preliminary results from laboratory tests are in the hands of investigators”.
Specific details were not made public.
Gandolfo says he too is being kept in the dark.
“They can’t discuss it with me, they can’t discuss it with you, were there mistakes made? That’s the question I have,” says Gandolfo.
At the bike path where Dalcourt was attacked, there is still a small memorial for the 23-year-old victim.
Some area residents say there is even some uneasiness.
“We are aware an arrest has still not been made, I think about it sometimes,” says Nelly Larouilly.
Gandolfo says he will not give up.
He says he will do what he can to find his daughter’s killer, but worries there is still “a clear and present danger” on the streets of Longueuil.
