TORONTO – Environment Canada issued snowfall warnings for cottage country as well as eastern and southwestern Ontario Wednesday afternoon.
Though most of southern Ontario — including Toronto — is only under a special weather statement snow is expected to move into the region later in early Thursday morning.
The low pressure system is making its way from the east where it dumped heavy snow over the eastern part of the United States. It also brought heavy rain to parts of the Maritimes Wednesday.
Global News senior meteorologist Anthony Farnell said that the snow will begin around midnight in Toronto and intensify just in time for the early morning commute. Though the snowfall won’t be intense, about 7 cm can be expected in some parts.

The other concern will be the wind: gusts of up t0 50 km/h are expected which will create a windchill of around -12 C.
It’s estimated the snow accumulation will be between 10 to 15 centimetres in most areas.
Both Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, as well as Porter Airlines are advising travellers to check their flight status throughout the day for cancellations and delays.

The system has already created dangerous driving conditions in Quebec.
