WATCH: Bergeron joins Montreal’s Executive Committee
MONTREAL — Montreal mayor Denis Coderre’s former political rival, Richard Bergeron, is now officially part of the mayor’s team.
Bergeron becomes the 12th member of the executive committee at city hall.
In order to add the former head of Project Montreal to his inner circle, Quebec politicians at the National Assembly had to pass a new law.
Bill 23 allowed the Montreal council to add a 12th additional member to the executive committee.
The old rule stipulated that between 7 and 11 people were supposed to be in that decision-making group.
Mayor Denis Coderre thanked the provincial municipal affairs minister Pierre Moreau for helping to change the law.
Bergeron will be in charge of development for the downtown core as part of his new role.
