MONTREAL — A ghost bike was installed on Thursday morning in memory of cyclist Salim Aoudia, who was killed last week while riding his bike.

The event, which was attended by family members, fellow cyclists and elected representatives, was held at the junction of Wellington and Nazareth in Griffintown.
A roadside memorial intended to remind Montrealers of the dangers faced by cyclists, a ghost bike is a painted white bicycle that is left at the exact spot where a cyclist died as a result of a road accident.

“This accident has once again demonstrated how our city has been planned for cars and that today’s urban planning is still unable to be inclusive,” the two Montreal cyclists who organized the ceremony said in a statement.
“It is vital that we change this mindset.”
“We need to start thinking about the most vulnerable road users: pedestrians and cyclists.”
