Sask. politician to be inducted into Canadian Football Hall of Fame

REGINA – Former offensive lineman and Saskatchewan politician Gene Makowsky will be inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame (CFHOF). The group officially announced the induction class of 2015 a few days before the 102nd Grey Cup in Vancouver.

Makowsky, 41, played his entire 17-year Canadian Football League (CFL) career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was originally drafted by the team in the second round in 1995.

Throughout his career, Makowsky played in 284 regular season games, 16 playoff games and won a Grey Cup championship in 2007. Makowsky retired in 2012 and has played more seasons with the Riders than any other player.

He is currently a member of legislative assembly (MLA) and represents the Saskatchewan Party in the constituency of Regina Dewdney. He was elected in the 2011 provincial election and sits on the legislature’s standing committee on crown and central agencies.

Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Makowsky graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Saskatchewan.

The 2015 inductees will bring the total CFHOF members to 278 at the hall in Hamilton, Ontario.
