Snowfall warning continues in Saskatchewan

UPDATE: All advisories mentioned in this story have ended

SASKATOON – A snowfall warning for central Saskatchewan and some southern parts of the province continues into Friday. Environment Canada says as of 4 a.m. Friday, 10 or more centimetres of snow has fallen from Saskatoon through to Lloydminster and more is on the way.

Other regions have received five to 10 cm, and snow will move into the Nipawin and Husdon Bay areas Friday morning. Regions south of Highway 1 have so far escaped with little or no snow.

Another 10 to 15 cm of snow is expected Friday in regions north of the TransCanada which will be blown around by winds of 30 km/h gusting up to 50 km/h.

The snow will taper off overnight and into Saturday morning as an arctic high pressure ridge brings colder and drier air.

Saskatoon city officials say crews are working around the clock plowing and grading priority 1 and 2 streets along with applying sand and salt.

Viewers have taken to Global Saskatoon’s Facebook page with opinions on plowing efforts in the city:

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Carla Bobinski Shabaga: A plow driving behind me this am, blade up

Clarisa Morales Roberts: No plows, but no problem. We just set the alarms a little earlier so we’d have time to get there.

Kyle Kaleka: Running in north industrial and Evergreen this morning. Priority 1 streets? No. While 22nd, 33rd and circle are just brutal. So far this year snow removal is complete garbage.

Tara Hackl: Seen plows on College Drive at 8:00am. This is great, but, could the planning of this not be such that either this road (main artery in and out of downtown) could have been done before or after people are trying to get to work. Oh well.

Mariesa Busby: I have seen plows out, but have yet to see any of the ice underneath treated (I mean since the first snowfall!).

Dawn Grobb: Grader on central doing his job – commute was better today than it has been all week

Gina Van Deventer: It’s such a crappy day I bought the person behind me their meal at Tim Hortons. Pay forward kindness people!!

Snowfall warnings are issued when 10 or more centimetres of snow is expected to fall in 12 hours or less.
