SASKATOON – The body of a 42-year-old man was found Saturday in an abandoned semi parked on a property in the 500-block of Avenue K South, according to Saskatoon police.

Police do not expect foul play to be a factor in the man’s death.

At roughly 3:30 p.m., officers were called after the man’s body was discovered inside the truck.

It’s believed he had been living there for some time.

Sheldon Munroe works across from where the semi was parked and says he saw the man many times before in the area.

“I know he’s been there for at least, probably, two years. As far as I know, he’s homeless,” Munroe explained.

Munroe said he remembers approaching the man and asking him if he was alright.

“He said ‘nothing much, just getting some sleep’ and I said ‘is this where you are staying? Is this where you live?’ And he said ‘yes’.”

Munroe said a lot of homeless people live in the neighbourhood, even over the winter.

Dustin Riley lives several doors down from the semi and says he’s even had to sleep in industrial containers himself when he was between work.

“It beats sleeping on a park bench when people will come by and see you,” Riley explained.

“So you kind of like to just tuck yourself away.”

The man’s identity has not been released.
