New England Patriots apologize for N-word tweet

Instead of celebrating a social media milestone, the New England Patriots were forced to apologize for a Twitter gaffe that included a racial epithet.

TORONTO – Instead of celebrating a social media milestone, the New England Patriots were forced to apologize for a Twitter gaffe that included a racial epithet.

On Thursday, the football team launched a Twitter campaign in celebration of becoming the first NFL team to reach 1 million followers.

“We’re saying thanks to @patriots’ 1million followers w/ custom digital Pats jerseys – RT for yours! #1MillionPatriots”

However, the team went into damage control after the auto-generated Twitter feed thanked a follower with the N-word in his Twitter handle.
