The City of Vancouver has backed off a controversial new parking policy affecting Meals on Wheels volunteers that prompted an immediate backlash.
For years, Meals on Wheels drivers have been able to park in resident permit parking while delivering meals.
But recently, that policy was changed. Volunteers were told they would now be subject to parking tickets.
When word spread, the policy was quickly reversed.
The City calls it a misunderstanding, but some believe the upcoming civic election may have contributed to the speedy resolution.
