MONTREAL — Employees and shoppers at a Pointe-Claire jewellery store were pepper-sprayed on Wednesday night as robbers made off with an undetermined amount of stock.

According to police, at around 8:15 p.m. the armed suspects smashed open display cases in the Birks store at the Pointe-Claire Fairview Mall, emptied them of their contents, pepper-sprayed people in the jewellery store and made their escape in a getaway vehicle.

Four people were treated on the scene for side effects of pepper spray; none were seriously hurt.

An investigation into the robbery — the fourth at the same store — is ongoing.

In addition to reviewing security footage and interviewing witnesses, police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the four suspects.

Authorities are asking anyone who was at the mall on Wednesday evening, and may have captured video or photos of the thieves, to contact police by calling Info-Crime at 514-393-1133.
