Montreal Canadiens trade Travis Moen for Sergei Gonchar

MONTREAL — The Montreal Canadiens have acquired defenceman Sergei Gonchar from the Dallas Stars in exchange for forward Travis Moen.

Gonchar missed the first 11 games of the season with a foot injury and has one assist in three games since his return.

The 40-year-old blue-liner has 798 points (219-579) in 1,256 regular-season games since making his NHL debut in 1994-’95.

He has also played for the Washington Capitals, Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators. Gonchar also represented Russia at four Olympic Games and won a Stanley Cup with the Penguins in 2009.

Moen has yet to record a point in 10 games this season.

The 32-year-old native of Stewart Valley, Sask., has 125 points (56-69) in 690 career regular-season games with the Canadiens, San Jose Sharks, Anaheim Ducks and Chicago Blackhawks.
