UPDATE: Woman found badly beaten at Bridgeland LRT station was victim of sex assault

CALGARY- A woman in her 30’s was rushed to hospital with severe head injuries Saturday night.

At around 9:30 p.m. police say a passerby heard the victim moaning and found her  in the bushes near the 600 block of Memorial Drive N.E., near the Bridgeland LRT.

The good smaritan then used the help box at the LRT station to call police.

The victim was rushed to hospital where she is currently in stable but critical condition. Police say she is no longer able to speak to them.

Investigators say she suffered multiple blunt force trauma to her head and  have confirmed she was also the victim of a sexual assault.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have been in the area between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. Saturday night and may have witnessed suspicious activity to call police.

“The witness that we had there could hear someone about 15 feet away and that’s how he located her because he could hear her moaning and he wanted to see what it was and help her out. So he went down and that’s how he located her,” Staff Sgt. Bev Voros said. “So if he could hear that, I’m hoping that anyone walking on the pathways would have heard some sort of a ruckus going on in the bushes and that’s what we’re looking for as well.”

No suspects are in custody and police have not confirmed what the victim was doing there.

Police have found a residence where the victim lives and are looking into her actions that night.
