UPDATE: An arrest has been made in stabbing at Surrey high school

UPDATE: An arrest has been made in the stabbing of a male student at Princess Margaret Secondary School in Surrey. The 17-year-old will appear in court on Friday and charges of assault causing bodily harm are being recommended.

The 18-year-old victim is still in hospital recovering from non-life threatening injuries.

One male student is in hospital following a stabbing today at Princess Margaret Secondary School in Surrey.

Surrey RCMP said the student was stabbed multiple times in the back and side by a male suspect, who fled the scene by foot. The victim was taken to a Royal Columbian Hospital but the extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.

Police have identified the male suspect as a student and are currently searching for him.

Surrey RCMP Sgt. Dale Carr said because they know who the suspect is, they are confident they’ll have him in custody in several hours.

The weapon used in the stabbing has been found by police.

The relationship between the two male students involved in the incident are currently unknown by police but Doug Strachan from the Surrey School Board said the altercation happened in a Grade 12 auto mechanic class.

Surrey RCMP is currently on the scene continuing their investigation.
