EDMONTON – Edmonton police say they are looking for a suspect who is considered armed and dangerous following an overnight fatal shooting at a club.

Police were called to the Papyrus Lounge on 111 St. and 107 Ave. shortly after 12:30 Wednesday morning.

Officers found a 31-year-old man lying dead on the floor of the club. He had at least one gunshot wound.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday morning. His name has not been released.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance video from the area, and are talking to witnesses.

They are looking for the suspect, who is described as a black man, in his mid-twenties, about 6’3” tall with a medium build. He has a beard and visible scars on his neck.

Two men living across the street from the lounge told Global News they were informed by police there was a shooting.

The residents added there has been a recent escalation of gun violence at the lounge, including an incident within the past few weeks.

“I got woken up with a ‘bang bang,’ and then the cops were all out there and the helicopter was there, and then we went the next day and there was two holes through the window,” said Michael McFadyen.

In 2011, Mohamud Jama, 23, was shot and killed the Papyrus Lounge in the early morning hours of New Years Day.
