Video: Adobe unveils new Photoshop unblur feature - image

Gone are the days where blurry photos are deemed useless and deleted.

Adobe, the maker of the graphics editing suite Photoshop, has created a filter that ‘removes’ the blur from a photograph due to shaky hand movements.

The process seems simple. Upload a blurred image into Photoshop and advanced algorithms will calculate the speed of any shaky camera movement at the time the image was taken. Click on the ‘Restore Sharp Image’ button and the once dud photo is now replaced with a sharper, retouched copy.

The prototype was showcased at the Adobe MAX 2011 trade show earlier this month in Los Angeles. In a YouTube video believed to be taken at the event, audience members gasp, cheer and applaud as a presenter demonstrates the now highly-anticipated anti-blur filter. Asked whether the feature will be added as an option to newly released Photoshop programs, an Adobe executive replies that ‘sneaks’ like these “may or may not appear in future version, we won’t commit to timing.”
