TORONTO – Parts of Ottawa were still under lockdown Wednesday afternoon after a soldier was shot while guarding the War Memorial near Parliament Hill.
The events started at 9:52 a.m. when police received “numerous calls” about a shooting at the War Memorial. Witnesses reported seeing the gunman get into a car and head toward the Parliament Buildings.

Soon afterwards, police descended on the area, closing off many streets. Traffic cameras showed empty streets leading up the immediate area.

In front of Parliament, it was another story. Dozens of police cars were seen, shouts of armed officers to media and those in the area rang out. The whole event took place in a radius of less than a kilometre.
Then, around 9:55 a.m., a journalist captured stunning video of shots ringing inside Parliament. The hallways reverberated with sounds of shouts from officers before the shots were fired.
