TORONTO — The head of Warner Bros. said Wednesday the upcoming Harry Potter spin-off movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be the first of several.
Written by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, the movie follows the adventures of “magizoologist” Newt Scamander and will be directed by David Yates.

“Jo has a vision for this extension of the franchise, and for the first time, she is writing the script for what she believes is at least a trilogy,” CEO Kevin Tsujihara told investors.
The film, scheduled for a 2016 release, will be the first in a trilogy — and the studio is hoping there will be more.
The eight-part Harry Potter series has grossed nearly $8 billion at the global box office.
