REGINA – A Regina doctor charged with stealing ketamine from the Pasqua Hospital is taking responsibility for his behaviour.
Dr. Jordan Velestuk was charged after it was alleged he stole ketamine from the hospital almost two years ago.
Alternative measures were agreed to in court this week, meaning the doctor takes responsibility for the offence. He has agreed to work with the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region on an alternative dispute resolution.
In a statement, the RQHR says Dr. Velestuk is not an employee of the health region but remains a member of the practitioner medical staff. He is still allowed to admit patients to hospital, and access lab and diagnostics.
Dr. Velestuk has a doctor’s office and can write prescriptions for patients.
The RQHR wouldn’t elaborate on what Dr. Velestuk is not allowed to do as a result of the resolution.
The matter was initially brought forward to the police after an internal investigation by the RQHR.
