CALGARY- During the 10th year anniversary of Cardel Place Sunday, the organization unveiled its plans for a $50 million expansion.
Tracey Martin from Cardel Place says the project is really important to the community to empower people to get active.
“The community is on a mission to raise healthier generations. So they want different kinds of spaces at Cardel Place to meet their needs as they grow,” Martin said. “To do more types of special events and spontaneous play opportunities that will make a difference in peoples lives.”

The community has inspired the plans, as it grows and looks to accommodate changes.
The big focus is more cultural activities. The expansion features unique and inventive spaces, highlighted by an indoor park and courtyard. It also includes a new 6-lane swimming pool, a doubling of fitness areas, new change-rooms and multipurpose community space.
The community is looking to raise funds through the three levels of government and generous donors.
The expansion is expected to be completed in late 2017, if funding goals are reached. Designs are currently being finalized.
Cardel Place is currently serving 150,000 people and they expect it will grow to 186,000 people in the next ten years. Since opening in 2004, the facility has hosted more than ten million visitors.
“During the past five years we’ve talked with and listened to thousands of north-central Calgary residents, stakeholders, pass-holders and users,” said Frank Muller, President of the Nose Creek Sports and Recreation Association. “We’re expanding now to keep pace with the growing and changing communities we serve and to advance our mission to raise healthier generations in Calgary, and beyond.”
