EDMONTON – Leduc Composite High School was placed in a state of “hold and secure” Thursday afternoon, in response to what the district calls a “nonspecific threat.”
In a letter posted on its website, the Black Gold Regional School Division said the threat was found within the high school early Thursday afternoon. It did not explain what the threat was.
The district said, as a precaution, the RCMP was notified around 12:15 p.m.. The school’s exterior doors were locked and students kept inside the classrooms. All schools within Leduc city limits were also put in a state of hold and secure as a precaution.

Students stayed in their classrooms until they were dismissed under RCMP and staff supervision.
The RCMP was at the school investigating the threat Thursday afternoon. Officers have since left the property.
RCMP say the threat did not identify a target.
“We take all threats very seriously and the safety of the students is of utmost importance,” said the district’s letter.
All schools will be open as usual on Friday. For more information, visit the Black Gold Division and Leduc Composite High School websites.
