TORONTO – Two stalwarts of Canadian journalism are moving over to Canada’s third major network, Global Television announced Tuesday.
Tom Clark and Patrick Brown, veteran reporters whose careers each span more than three decades, will be joining Global in prominent roles in the coming weeks, the network said.
“These are two giants of journalism,” Global News vice-president Troy Reeb said in a statement.
“The wealth of experience and expertise they bring to the table is simply astounding. They will both play an important role in further solidifying Global News as the news leader in Canada.”

Clark, who hosted CTV’s Ottawa-based political affairs show “Power Play” before stepping down last year, will take the helm of “The West Block,” a similar offering on Global.
The Sunday morning program, which begins airing later this month, will feature panel discussions as guests discuss the political news of the day.
Clark spent nearly 40 years with CTV, where he served as the network’s bureau chief in Washington and China, as well as host of the long-running investigative news show “W5.”
He was considered one of the contenders to replace national news anchor Lloyd Robertson, who retired last week after 35 years in the job. Robertson was replaced by Lisa LaFlamme, who made her debut on Monday night.
Brown will continue his career as a foreign correspondent with Global when he becomes the network’s China correspondent based in Beijing. He held similar positions with CBC during his more than 30-year career with the public broadcaster, with stints in London, New Delhi and Bangkok.
Brown, who was honoured last year with a lifetime achievement award from the Canadian Journalism Foundation, returns to the small screen after spending three years as an independent documentary producer.
The latest additions to Global’s roster come nearly a year after former NBC foreign correspondent Dawna Friesen took over from Kevin Newman as host of the network’s national news program.
