Cocktail recipe: The Fields are Burning

CALGARY – Officials have named the winner of a mixology competition held in Calgary on Monday.

Bartenders from a handful of watering holes across Alberta were pitted against each other in the Storied Cocktail competition.

Participants had to use Mount Gay, the oldest rum in the world, and their story-telling abilities to create a drink that would wow the judges.

The winner was David Bain from Calgary’s Model Milk with a cocktail called ‘The Fields are Burning.’

Recipe:

1.5 oz Mount Gay Eclipse Rum

.5 oz Jinga d’Obidos Cherry Liqueur

A barspoon of Pimento Dram All Spice Liqueur

A dash of Peychaud bitter

.5 oz smoked black tea simple syrup

1 oz fresh lemon juice

1 egg white

Garnish with lemongrass ash (blowtorched lemongrass passed through a fine strainer)

Serve in a coupe glass
