WINNIPEG – Police seized thousands of pot plants worth more than $2 million from homes in Richmond West and Niakwa Place.
A man was arrested Wednesday during a search in the first 100 block of Burnhill Bay in Richmond West where 1,006 pot plants, 100 grams of dry marijuana and grow-op equipment were seized. Police estimated the street value of the marijuana plants, once harvested and dried, at $1,126,720.
A home in the 100 block of Southbridge Drive was searched later Wednesday. There was no one home but police found 1,075 marijuana plants worth an estimated $1,204,000 once harvested and dried, 109 grams of dry marijuana and grow-op equipment.
Electricity and water were being stolen at both locations, police said.
The 43-year-old man who was arrested on Burnhill Bay was charged with production of marijuana, possessing marijuana and two counts of theft of telecommunications.
Police arrested two more people Thursday in connection with the Southbridge grow op.
A 52-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman were each charged with production of marijuana, possessing marijuana and two counts of theft of telecommunications.
All three were released on promises to appear in court at a later date.
