An evacuation order has now been put into effect at a fishing lodge near Euchiniko Lakes in central B.C.
The Euchiniko Lake Ranch Lodge near the black water river in the Cariboo, 120 kilometers west of Quesnel.
The fire that started last week now covers 1600 hectares of terrain, and is expected to get bigger. It is a Rank 3 fire, which means it is “a moderately vigorous surface fire.”
Forty-one firefighters and six helicopters have been battling the flames without any success yet.
Strong winds and dry conditions have lead to growth of the fire.
Smoky conditions have also made it difficult to determine the exact size.
An evacuation order affecting dozens of people was also recommended for the nearby Kluskus Indian Reserve. The reserve itself is not currently threatened by the fire, but it is possible that road access will be compromised.
This fire was sparked by lightning.
