The Euchinko Lakes fire west of Quesnel. Wildfire Management Branch

Additional firefighters have been brought in to deal with a sizeable fire 120 kilometers west of Quesnel.

The Euchiniko Lakes  fire is currently estimated to cover about 150 hectares.

The fire is believed to have been caused by lightning.

It’s a fairly remote area – there are no towns or buildings being threatened at the moment, but crews want to get a handle on the flames before they spread further.

Six firefighters, two helicopters and heavy equipment are being used to battle the fire.

Wildfire Management Branch has two initial attack crews enroute from the Cariboo Fire Centre to respond to the fire.

It says a helicopter is bucketing on the fire and they are focusing on the spot fires on the south side of the lake.
