18-year-old apprehended in double hit-and-run in Monteregie

MONTREAL – Quebec provincial police arrested  an 18-year-old man in connection with a double hit-and-run  that injured three people  in Acton Vale Friday evening.

A car heading northbound on route 139 swerved into oncoming traffic while trying to negotiate a curve, hitting a motorcycle and injuring two people. Both occupants of the motorcycle are in hospital with serious injuries.

The car then continued and hit another vehicle a short time later. The driver of that car was not seriously injured.

The vehicle involved in both hit-and-runs was found abandoned a short while later.

Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Gregory Gomez del Prado told Global News that with the help of the canine unit, police were able to track down an 18-year-old who had been an occupant of the vehicle.

Police apprehended and interrogated the man, who was under the influence of alcohol at the time of his arrest.  The man has since been released and no charges have been laid as of yet.

It is unknown at this time whether the man was the driver of the vehicle or a passenger.

Police would not confirm reports that they are seeking a second man in connection with the incident.
