NEAR VERNON, B.C.– A boat went up in flames Saturday night in a storage compound in Spallumcheen.

Fire crews believe the incident is suspicious, as the small blaze started in the passenger area of the leisure craft, not near the engine.

An investigation is underway to find out what caused the fire and who may be responsible.

There have been upwards of 14 fires in four weeks in the Vernon area.

Many have been deemed suspicious.

RCMP have dedicated an officer to investigate the series of small blazes. This latest fire will now be a part of that investigation.

“There’s a possibility it’s one or two individuals,” says Vernon RCMP spokesman, Gord Molendyk, “but at this point we can’t say.”

The boat was a complete write-off, but the fire was contained quickly before spreading to another nearby boat.
