CALGARY – Police are warning citizens that there is no such thing as the “Calgary Police News Magazine” after learning of new telephone scam.
Investigators have received several complaints from people who say they’ve answered phone calls from a man who claims to be selling ad space in the fictitious publication.
Victims say the suspect tried to pressure them into placing ads in the magazine, and demanded personal information and credit card numbers.
Police stress that the “Calgary Police News Magazine” does not exist, and they are not soliciting advertisers.
Anyone who receives a similar call is asked to capture as much information as possible about the caller, including any numbers that may be visible on call display, and then contact police or Crime Stoppers.
