Geography

One of three London ridings, this electoral districts spans everything north of the Thames River between Highbury and Wonderland Road, with the exception of a small pocket of homes surrounding West Lions Park.

Deb Matthews won this riding for a third straight time in 2011, defeating PC candidate Nancy Branscombe by over 6,500 votes. The seat belonged to the Conservatives under Dianne Cunningham from 1988 to 2003, and the Liberals under Ron Van Horne from 1977 to 1988.

By the numbers

The 2011 census reported a median income of $25,587 in this riding, the lowest in the region. Home to Western University, 36.3 per cent of people live in one-person households, the largest number in Ontario outside of Toronto, Ottawa, or Hamilton.
