Geography

The westernmost riding in Ontario, the riding goes from the the Manitoba border to Fort Severn in the north and Fort Frances in the south.

History

Sarah Campbell took this seat for the NDP in 2011, defeating PC candidate Rod McKay by just over 2,500 votes. Campbell replaced former NDP leader Howard Hampton, who had been an MP in the region since 1987. Prior to 1999, the area was split into two seats.

By the numbers

At over 330,000 square kilometres, it’s the largest riding in the province – but had the second smallest number of voters last election, with just 22,065 casting a ballot. The population in the federal riding of Kenora decreased by 12.9 per cent between the last two censuses, the largest drop in Canada.
