REGINA – A man from Ontario is facing several charges after a woman was kidnapped from outside a Regina nightclub and repeatedly sexually assaulted back in 2010.
On June 18, 2010 police received a call from a 22-year-old woman at a tourist information centre at the Manitoba/Saskatchewan border saying she had been abducted and attacked.
An investigation by police revealed that the woman was at a nightclub in Regina on the 1000 block of Park Street the previous evening. When she left the bar to find a cab ride home, a man followed her out of the club and asked her if she needed a ride home.
Once she was in his semi-truck the man prevented her from getting out and drove away.
When they were on the road, the man assaulted and sexually assaulted the victim several times over the next few hours before he let her leave his truck near Kirkella, Manitoba.
A break in the case came when information in a shared database of violent offences registered a match on a suspect in Ontario.
42-year-old Colin James Kelly of Thomasburg, Ontario is charged with Kidnapping and Sexual Assault Causing Bodily Harm.
Kelly made his first court appearance Wednesday morning in Regina.
