Toronto celebrates Earth Day 2014

TORONTO – Toronto residents can celebrate Earth Day with a number of activities planned across the city.

Every year on April 22, over a billion people in 190 countries take action for Earth Day.

From San Francisco to San Juan, Beijing to Brussels, Moscow to Marrakesh, people plant trees, clean up their communities, contact their elected officials, and more—all on behalf of environmental protection awareness.

Below are a list of some events happening in Toronto.

1. 250 Students from Fleming Public School will be planting 750 trees/shrubs on Earth Day.

2. ROM Biodiversity invites local Toronto students from Jesse Ketchum Public School to learn about the importance of wildlife, birds of prey and biodiversity on Earth Day.

Time: 10:00 a.m to 2:30 p.m.

3. National Geographic Photographer George Steinmetz presents a stunning display of 42 large-scale aerial desert Photographs. Steinmetz will speak about his exhibition on Earth Day.

Where: First Canadian Place, Waterfall Stage
Time: 12:15 p.m.

4. Earth Day Canada is collaborating with Green Drinks Toronto to host a large Earth Day Charity Party. The event is set to attract over 200 environmental leaders and professionals from across the GTA.

Where: The Rock’N’Horse Saloon, 250 Adelaide St. W., 3rd floor
Time: 6:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.

5. Aveda Canada hosts Walk for Water for Earth Month to raise funds and awareness for clean water-related causes.

Where: Aveda Academy & Institute / St. James Park
Time: 8:30 a.m.
