A Summerland man who built an illegal lakefront cottage has been ordered to tear it down.
Don Gingras did not get the necessary permits from the District of Summerland before building the cottage on his property bordering Okanagan Lake.
The District has safety concerns about the stability of the steeply sloped property.
When Gingras refused to voluntarily remove the cottage, the District pursued legal action and has now obtained a court injunction ordering him to dismantle the building by mid-September.
Gingras has also been ordered to pay the District’s legal costs.
