The risk of forest fires is growing as the days get hotter and drier.
So it was fortunate that a rainstorm moved in after a grass fire broke out above Peachland.
The small blaze started around noon in a remote area off Sanderson Avenue in the hills outside the town boundaries.
Peachland fire crews arrived on the scene but since the fire was outside their jurisdiction, crews were not allowed to respond.
Peachland Fire Chief Grant Topham says crews need approval from B.C. Forestry before fighting a fire outside their boundaries.
Fortunately a small Forestry unit responded and additional support was not needed from Peachland firefighters.
Topham says the grass fire was approximately 30 by 30 metres and did not spread to nearby trees.
He says a cause for the brush fire has not yet been determined.
