CALGARY- Mayor Naheed Nenshi is expecting provincial money could soon come our way after Edmonton received a $600 million dollar commitment for their LRT Tuesday.

The money comes as part of the province’s GreenTRIP program, with the Alberta government matching funds from Steven Harper’s Building Canada Fund.

$150 million dollars is also allocated as part of an interest-free loan.

That’s encouraging news for Calgary’s mayor.

He says if Calgary could secure a similar loan, our city could save tens of millions of dollars of interest in our ten year transit fund.

Mayor Nenshi says he spoke with the Minister of Municipal Affairs about the announcement Monday. He suggests the province is willing to give Calgary a similar deal.
