Metro passengers who rely on the Villa Maria station had a change in schedule Monday morning.

The Societe de transport de Montreal (STM) is temporarily closing the Villa Maria metro stop for extensive repair work.

The station will be closed from June 6 until Sept. 5.

Throughout the construction trains will travel through the Villa Maria station at low speed without stopping.

The STM has arranged a shuttle bus service (line 545) that will run every 5-8 minutes during regular metro hours.

The shuttle bus will take riders to the Snowdon station.

Buses will travel along streets Decarie, Cote-Ste-Catherine (with a stop at the station of the same name), Victoria and Queen-Mary).

Plus, a stop will made on Decarie at Queen-Mary, a few minutes from the Snowdon station.

Detailed information about this service and the resulting changes have been sent to area schools for students.

The shuttle bus route is available at http://www.stm.info, in the “Travaux a la STM” section.

On-site, posters and signs are posted to inform clients.

The lines 24 – Sherbrooke, 103 – and 162 Monkland – Westminster that travel through the Villa Maria station will continue as usual.

Customers are reminded they cannot buy tickets or update Opus cards at the Villa Maria station.

Work on the metro stop will see structural reconstruction, waterproofing, stair repair (yellow strips with signs to be added), new floors, windows, lighting and more.

The upgrades are being performed under the program Reno-Stations Phase II, the Quebec Ministry of Transport and the STM.
