EDMONTON – After just four months with the team, the Edmonton Oilers have traded goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov.
Bryzgalov was traded to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a 2014 fourth-round draft pick.
The team also announced it had acquired goalie Viktor Fasth from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a 2014 fifth-round draft pick and a 2015 third-round draft pick.
Bryzgalov, 33, played 20 games with the Oilers.
He had a 3.01 goals against average and his save percentage while with the team was .908.
Bryzgalov’s record with the Oilers was 5-8.
“I think my last couple games… six or seven… were very, very good, very sharp,” said Bryzgalov in an interview posted on Oilers TV.
Still, he said he’s excited to play for the Wild.
“It’s a new challenge, great opportunity, a team battling for a playoff spot…I hope we’re going to make it in the playoffs.”
“I’m going to do everything in my power to bring the most of me… to give the team the best chance to win,” he said.

Shortly after noon Tuesday, there was already a suggestion on social media to have an Olympic gold medallist on standby as a backup in case the newly-acquired goalie couldn’t make Tuesday night’s game.
Within 30 minutes, that tweet had been retweeted 444 times.
However, Tuesday afternoon, the Oilers announced it would be Kurtis Mucha, of the University of Alberta Golden Bears, who would be backing up Ben Scrivens in goal.
On Monday, the Oilers announced they had signed a two-year deal with goalie Ben Scrivens.
