Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says only time will tell whether ditching twice-a-year clock changes was the right call.
Her government announced this week that it would be moving to permanent daylight time, meaning Albertans won’t need to switch their clocks back this fall, or ever again.
Some health experts warn the opposite time system, standard time, is better for the human body, but Smith says Albertans shouldTime try it out for at least a year before deciding how they feel about it.

She says if Albertans are furious after the first year, it’s possible the government could call another vote on switching back.
The government has said its hands were tied with British Columbia also adopting permanent daylight time as well as Saskatchewan keeping year-round standard time already.
Permanent daylight time means Albertans will experience dark mornings in the winter in exchange for more sun in the evening.
— More to come…
I trust that people who cannot handle a 1 hour time change will commit to never travelling east or west out of their time zones or they are disingenuous.
I believe this was already voted on and did not win. Another Danielle Smith decision that she didn’t listen to.
Finally found something I agree with Premier Smith on! Looking forward to permanent MDT.
Please do not go to daylight as it will be getting up in the am when it will be dark and common sense if people wake up with the sun up it makes one in a better mood as waking up in darkness is depressing.also sun up till 10pm or later is senseless one for trying to get children to sleep also anyone with dementia, it will be a problem the sports.this change has not been thought through completely
Kindly do not go DST.
Thank you
“Alberta premier says 1st year with no time changes will be telling”
Is she that dull to not hear what was told when US tried to do many many yrs back and they had revert.
Smith still does not get it. We do not want to switch to daylight savings, we do not want to switch back. We want Mountain Standard Time year round.
Why are we not following Saskatchewan’s lead… Why are their hands not tied with Saskatchewan instead of BC?
Though staying at Mountain Standard Time is recommended by health experts and preferred by the electorate, this government is much smarter and knows what’s better for us. Huh.
I, for one, can’t wait until these time changes stop. Been losing too much sleep for over 50 years.
