Walking into a police station with a firearm isn’t something RCMP in Chilliwack, B.C., recommend, even if you’re taking advantage of a federal gun buyback program.
They are reminding firearm owners not to bring guns directly to police detachments as part of the federal assault-style firearms compensation program, because walking into a police station with a firearm can land you in trouble.
In a statement Sunday, RCMP said several individuals have recently attended Upper Fraser Valley detachments hoping to relinquish their firearms in person, a move police say is causing more concern than compliance.

Mounties say arriving at a detachment with unsecured or unregistered firearms is a criminal offence, even if the intent is to follow the rules.
Police say people who have registered for the buyback program will receive instructions through the Public Safety Canada portal on how to safely schedule a collection appointment.

The program is part of the federal government’s effort to remove prohibited assault-style firearms from circulation, with compensation offered to those who follow the rules.
RCMP say anyone looking to surrender a firearm who has not yet registered should call their local detachment using the non-emergency line for guidance.
More information on collection and disposal options is available through the federal government’s assault-style firearms compensation program website.
Don’t worry. We won’t be bringing anything to any police detachment because we are not giving up this fight. We will keep our lawfully owned property whether the Liberals or the liberal media likes it or not!
Law abiding gun owners aren’t the problem.. criminals are. And they don’t get their guns from citizens. They get smuggled-in guns… so this program will not help crime one bit. This is why all the police forces are not going to participate in it – they know it is a colossal waste of time and money.
No thanx. Ill keep my fire arms.
You can take them out of my cold dead hands.
Its almost like there was no fore thought given to this forced confiscation. Really helping the public safety.
Walking into a RCMP Detachment with a firearm could get you shot & killed!!! DON’T!!! A member was shot and killed in Richmond in E Div by a man walking in with a shotgun in 1976.
Duke – according to your logic we should ban muslims from driving white vans too.
Duke – Guns used are not stolen from legal gun owners. Its people who obtain them illegally or smuggled from the US. Are your cheeks all chubby too from blowing Pinnochio’s nose? Leftist dolt.
Lmao. Register nothing and surrender nothing.

Hey. Reporter. Report maybe?
The Public Safety Canada portal is non-operative.. who knows when it will come online. So – meanwhile – even owners who were stupid enough to engage this bloated program which will save no lives have no where for information on when, if ever, they’ll get paid.
Typical of police, hand in your firearms, anyone who complies is getting shafted, because they didnt make the process clear to gun owners.
Hey Duke,
Alcohol kills far more Canadians per year than firearms do so maybe we should ban that as well.
Oh wait a minute, that would cut into the tax flow to the Government.
So as you can clearly see ,this firearm ban is really not about public safety, it is just a cheap virtue signaling point of political posturing carried out by the Liberal government to sooth their voter base of a delusional mindset of unjustified fear.
I’ll follow the law and whatever process is ultimately required — that’s not in question.
What’s frustrating, and honestly pretty sad, is how much confusion this has caused. Every week or two I get calls from people I know asking things like, “Is this a good handgun?” I explain that in Canada you need the proper licence, registration, and paperwork — and that many of the firearms they’re asking about aren’t even legal to buy or transfer anymore.
Those conversations used to be rare. Now they’re common, and that alone should raise concerns for anyone who actually cares about public safety. Even more concerning is hearing people talk about — or openly admit to — buying illegal handguns because they believe there’s no longer a legal path. To be absolutely clear, I don’t support that at all and I tell people straight out that it’s dangerous and criminal. But ignoring that this is happening doesn’t make it go away.
When lawful, regulated channels disappear without a clear replacement, frustration tends to build rather than resolve itself. In that environment, misinformation spreads more easily, some people lose confidence in the legal process, and you start to hear misguided talk — including references to “militia” groups — that reflects confusion and distrust more than anything constructive. That’s not something I support or want any part of.
The RCMP warning reported by Global News makes sense from a safety standpoint, and it’s clear they don’t want to be put in the middle of this. From the outside, it looks like the RCMP are being forced into a reactive role — dealing with confused owners and unclear processes that were created at the policy level. If compliance is the goal, then clear, written instructions should have been in place long before officers were left issuing warnings after the fact.
I’ll stay within the lines. I just wish the government had done a better job of drawing those lines in the first place.
Just be sure to call before bringing in your 6 inch howitzer. LOL
Hey Anonymous, you rightnuts hate facts like your leader Drump:
On a national level, a substantial portion of “crime guns” (firearms seized by police) are identified as domestically sourced, meaning they were originally legal in Canada before being diverted to the black market through theft or “straw purchasing” (a legal owner buying a gun for a criminal)
Overall Domestic Source: Approximately 58% to 68% of successfully traced crime guns in Canada are found to be domestically sourced.
Overall Smuggled Source: Approximately 32% to 42% are smuggled into the country, predominantly from the United States.
And if you think criminals are the only doing gun violence? So call law abiding gun owners are also involved in violence.
Many of Canada’s most infamous mass shootings were carried out by individuals who possessed a valid Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) and used guns they purchased legally:
Status of WeaponÉcole Polytechnique (Montreal)1989Legal. Ruger Mini-14 purchased at a sporting goods store.Vernon, BC Family Massacre1996Legal. Mark Chahal used legally owned handguns.Dawson College (Montreal)2006Legal. Beretta CX4 Storm (restricted at the time).Moncton Shooting (RCMP)2014Legal. Justin Bourque used a legally purchased M14 and shotgun.Quebec City Mosque2017Legal. Alexandre Bissonnette held a valid PAL for his weapons.Fredericton Shooting2018Legal. Matthew Raymond used a non-restricted SKS rifle.Vaughan Condo Shooting2022Legal. Francesco Villi used a legally purchased handgun.
Yeah, keep arming the criminals.
Duke that doesnt even happen, you are pathetic. Typical whiny liberal.
The so law abiding gun owners who gets their guns stolen are arming the bad guys. What do they do when their guns get stolen, they buy replacement guns. So the cycle continues. Pathetic whiney gun owners.
You ever wonder why Gary’s cheeks are so puffy?
The lieberals should spend the money on therapy for the survivors. Much cheaper than collective punishment. But then again how would Corney’s croonies get paid, especially since arrivescam is now bust.
The buyback is nothing more than a political scam to appease the woman survivors of a tragedy that occurred decades ago by some one who was mentally unstable. It does nothing to prevent nut jobs from snapping again or for preventing criminals from firearm possession. It just punishes law abiding gun owners. Get rid of it , build more prisons instead and quit letting criminals out .
Just a reminder – compensation is not guaranteed even upon surrender of your firearms.
And I still can’t stop shaking my head at the “assault style” terminology. I have knives in my kitchen drawer that are assault-style knives. As in, they are super effective in conducting assaults against the butter block. Oh, and you should see them take on margarine!
What’s that? That’s not what “assault style” means? Oh, is there a definition somewhere? I know what an assault rifle is. Those have been illegal for a looooong time.
Less persecution of law abiding citizens. Focus on eliminating the illegal handguns on the streets. When nearly half your policing force across the country is saying “yeah nah we aren’t helping” you know you’re barking up the wrong tree in the name of “safety”.
What a scam, perfect for the corrupt Lieberals
Arrange for pick up at your residence. Easier to investigate you.
All the cowards who registered for the scam-back are not getting any ‘compensation’ either. All that money probably just went to Corney’s croonies and his own companies.
It is CONFISCATION, NOT COMPENSATION.
Cheeks get fatter when you lie too much
Total waste of money, even chubby cheeks confirms it.
LOL
Part of the government’s efforts to collect firearms that they themselves prohibited, turning what was legally acquired property of law abiding citizens into a felony. Well done, we all feel safer. Disregard the statistics around whether legally acquired firearms are actually used in crimes (they aren’t), or where those illegal firearms come from (our unguarded border). Really great use of taxpayer money!
Assault style firearms is not a real thing
Cowards… coming from a bunch of cowards who willingly do no-knock raids are needing a heads up on citizens doing something legally.
Liberals are winning because they have convinced their useful idiots to live in fear
This is full of misinformation. There are .22 caliber rifles in this that are not ” assaults style “
