Tom Higgins named as Alouettes’ new coach

MONTREAL – Tom Higgins has been named the new head coach of the Montreal Alouettes.

The CFL club confirmed Higgins’ appointment in a release Monday.

Higgins will take over from team general manager Jim Popp, who has also been coaching the team since Dan Hawkins was fired only five games into his first CFL season.

Higgins has extensive CFL experience, including four years as a head coach with the Edmonton Eskimos and another three with the Calgary Stampeders.

He led the Eskimos to a Grey Cup in 2003.

He recently served as the CFL’s director of officiating.
