A British Columbia man who fought off a grizzly bear in the East Kootenay region this month has died of his injuries, more than three weeks after the attack.
Joe Pendry, 63, was hunting elk near Fort Steel, northeast of Cranbrook, on Oct. 2 when he was charged by a grizzly sow with two cubs.

His wife, Janice Pendry, said her husband shot the bear in the leg, but the bear mauled him, causing severe head and face injuries.
Joe was flown to Kelowna General Hospital, where he underwent multiple surgeries.
He seemed to be making progress recovering; however, Janice said her husband died on Saturday morning from what doctors believe was a blood clot.
The mother bear was found dead a few days later by Conservation Officers. They said it is believed the bear died of sepsis.
It is not known what happened to the bear’s cubs.
