EDMONTON – Police are investigating after another purse snatching in south Edmonton.
Since Jan. 21, there have been five separate similar personal robberies. The most recent case happened on Sunday, in a grocery store parking lot in the area of 97 Street and 23 Avenue.
Police say a woman was putting away her shopping cart when a man drove up beside her and stole her purse. The woman was also hit in the face by the male suspect, who then left the area in a pickup truck.
Investigators believe the male suspect tried to use bank cards from the woman’s purse at a local bank the next day around 1:00 p.m.

- Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014 around 8:20 p.m. in a grocery store parking lot in the area of 100 Avenue and 170 Street
- Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014 around 2:50 p.m. in a grocery store parking lot in Riverbend Square
- Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014 around 7:20 p.m. outside a hair salon in the area of 51 Avenue and 105 Street
- Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 around 12:30 p.m. outside a medical centre in the area of 23 Avenue and 111 Street
Police say in most of these cases a man has approached a woman and distracted her with a contrived story, or approaches a woman from behind and aggressively takes her purse before fleeing the area in a truck.
The suspect is described as being a Caucasian male, 30-40 years old, between 5′ 10″ and 6′ 0″ and weighs 200 pounds. He has light brown/blonde hair, a broad face, pink complexion and was clean shaven. He was wearing a dark brown jacket a possibly a dark toque at the time of the robberies.
