EDMONTON – The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is searching for a man believed to be responsible for three purse snatchings earlier this week. In all three cases, elderly women were targeted.
The first case happened around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday. Police say an elderly woman was approached while sitting in her vehicle in a grocery store parking lot in the area of 100 Avenue and 170 Street. According to police, the male suspect told the woman he had a broken tail light and while the woman was checking out the damage, the man allegedly stole her purse.
The second incident happened in a grocery store parking lot near Riverbend Square around 2:50 p.m. Wednesday. Police say an elderly woman was sitting in her vehicle when a man allegedly jumped inside, started screaming at her, choked her with her scarf, then left the area.
The third case also happened on Wednesday, in a hair salon near 51 Avenue and 105 Street. Police say a man reportedly followed an elderly woman into the salon, took her purse, and left the salon.
In each case, the male suspect was driving a red pick-up truck, police said in a media release.
The man is described as being Caucasian, 30- 40 years old, between 5′ 10″ and 6′ 0″, and weighs around 200 pounds. He has light brown/blonde hair, a broad face, pink complexion and was clean shaven. He was wearing a dark brown jacket a possibly a dark toque at the time of the robberies.
