In 2008, Conservative Rick Casson defeated NDP Mark Sandilands by 25,479 votes

Casson has held the riding since 1997 when he was first election under the Reform Party, served under the Canadian Alliance in 2000 and then under the Conservatives since 2004

Jim Hillyer – Conservative

– Having overcome Leukemia, he was the spokesperson for the Canadian Cancer Society

– Is an educator, business consultant and personal advisor

– Has been active in conservative politics for over ten years

– Served as President of a provincial riding association, on the board of a federal electoral district association in Lethbridge, and as a candidate for election to the Saskatchewan Legislature

Michael Cormican – Liberal

– Currently a registered psychiatric nurse at the Mental Health Programs Contracts Coordinator for the Chinook Health Region

– Has been involved with organizations addressing health, youth, aboriginal peoples, affordable housing, poverty and low income

– Committed to encouraging economic diversity and wise management of the environment and resources

Mark Sandilands – NDP

– Is the Secretary for Greensence – a group of committed citizens dedicated to promoting renewable energy alternatives in Alberta

– He was the Treasurer of the Environmental Psychology Section at the Canadian Psychology Association from 1993-2010

– Was a Professor Emeritus at the University of Lethbridge, where he was a faculty member from 1968 to 2000

Cailin Bartlett – Green Party

– Currently working towards obtaining two Bachelor of Arts degrees, one in Economics and the other in Political Science

– After completing her education she hopes to work for either a non-profit organization or a non-governmental association

– Feels strong ties to the Green Party’s core values, especially that of social justice
